What are OEM Profile Keycaps?
If you are new to the mechanical keyboards, you might see different descriptions such as "OEM profile", "Cherry profile", "XDA profile" and "SA profile" and wonder what they all mean.
In short, profiles mean heights. The most glaring difference among them is the overall height of keycaps. For a detailed walk through, please check out our Guide to Keycap Profiles.
OEM profile is known as the standard profile since it is commonly used in many modern and prebuilt mechanical keyboards.
It is mass produced and considered standard among commonly branded mechanical keyboards such as Logitech, Corsair, and Razer.
OEM profile keycaps are not uniform, meaning different rows would have a different design and height. They also have cylindrical tops that conform to your fingertips to increase comfort during typing or gaming.
What is PBT material?
PBT (short for “polybutylene terephthalate”) is one of the hardest and most durable keycap materials available. Unlike other materials, PBT does not turn yellow over time, and is extremely resistant to heat and chemicals.
Double Shot vs. Dye Sublimation
Both are processes used for creating the legend on your keycap. Dye-sub involves printing the legends onto the keycap, while double-shot uses injection molding to insert the legend. Both methods offer great durability and feel.
